Unrest in Lybia

UPRISING IN LYBIA 20 February 2011

Excerpt from the Sunday expressInternational concern is mounting about the violent crackdown on protests in Libya, amid reports that the number of demonstrators killed by Muammar Gaddafi's security forces was approaching 200.Medical officials in Libya's second city of Benghazi said 15 people died when troops opened fire on mourners leaving a funeral for protesters killed in earlier clashes.Internet services have been shut down throughout the north African state, where journalists' movements are strictly controlled, and only patchy reports have emerged of events over the three days of protests.Reports suggested that mourners were killed by shots to the head and chest, while one was apparently hit by an anti-aircraft missile. Scores of others were injured after the regime sent in commandos, mercenaries and helicopters in what has been the most brutal response to the wave of unrest sweeping across the Arab world.Gaddafi's son Saadi is understood to have led the crackdown in Benghazi against protesters calling for an end to his father's 42-year autocratic rule. The Foreign Office is advising against all but essential travel to the cities of Benghazi, Ajdabiya, Al-Bayda, Al-Marj, Derna and Tobruk in eastern Libya, where the protests have been concentrated.Clashes on a smaller scale were also reported on Saturday in Yemen and Algeria. But in Bahrain, chanting demonstrators flooded back into Pearl Square unopposed after King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa ordered troops off the streets and offered dialogue with all of the Gulf state's communities.

Gaddafi was born in a Bedouin family near Sirt. As a teenager, Gaddafi was an admirer of Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser and his Arab socialist and nationalist ideology. Gaddafi took a part in anti-Israel demonstrations during the 1956 Suez Crisis. An early conspirator, he began his first plan to overthrow the monarchy while in military college. He received further military training in the United Kingdom. On 1 September 1969, a small group of junior military officers led by Gaddafi staged a bloodless coup d'état against King Idris, while he was in Turkey for medical treatment. The slim 27-year-old Gaddafi, with a taste for safari suits and sunglasses, then sought to become the new "Che Guevara of the age". To accomplish this Gaddafi turned Libya into a haven for anti-Western radicals, where any group, supposedly, could receive weapons and financial assistance, provided they claimed to be fighting imperialism. The Italian population in Libya almost disappeared after Gaddafi ordered the expulsion of Italians in 1970.

A Revolutionary Command Council was formed to rule the country, with Gaddafi as chairman. He added the title of prime minister in 1970, but gave up this title in 1972. Unlike some other military revolutionaries, Gaddafi did not promote himself to the rank of general upon seizing power, but rather accepted a ceremonial promotion from captain to colonel and has remained at this rank since then. From time to time, Gaddafi has responded to domestic and external opposition with violence. His revolutionary committees called for the assassination of Libyan dissidents living abroad in April 1980, with Libyan hit squads sent abroad to murder them. On 26 April 1980, Gaddafi set a deadline of 11 June 1980 for dissidents to return home or be "in the hands of the revolutionary committees". Nine Libyans were murdered during that time, five of them in Italy. (from wikepedia)

So what does Gaddafi's birth chart tell us about the man? I don't have his time of birth so have used a mid-day chart for 7 June 1942, Sirte, Libya. If we look to the top of the chart we can see Uranus conjunct Saturn in Gemini and Mercury conjunct Jupiter square to Neptune. The Sun is on the Jupiter/Uranus and Venus/Mars midpoints. Pluto is square Venus and on the Mars/Chiron mid-point. Jupiter is on the Saturn/Mars mid-point. So here is a someone whose uniqueness is expressed in a lively and rebelious manner. He has the ability to concentrate his energy exclusively upon a particular objective. But his unrealistic ideas and distorted view of his own importance are likely to incline him to use his power for personal benefit and to abuse all those who stand in his way. Just now, transiting Uranus has been making a t-square with his natal Jupter/Neptune, which is likely to awaken him to a sudden, difficult situation. At the same time transiting Pluto is opposing the Saturn/Chiron midpoint at 7 degrees of Cancer and tr Jupiter squares it at 6 degrees Aries. Makes me wonder how many more lives will be lost while he clings on to power? L.S.P.S. When Gaddafi was killed transiting Pluto was opposite his Sun/Mars midpoint and tr Jupiter was on his natal Venus (square Pluto), indicating the violent manner in which he died because he could not let go of his love for power. L.S.
