Death row inmate Troy Davis has been executed in the US state of Georgia for the fatal shooting of police officer Mark MacPhail in Savannah, Georgia, United States. MacPhail was working as a security guard at a Burger King restaurant when he intervened to defend a man being assaulted in a nearby parking lot. During Davis’ 1991 trial, witnesses testified they had seen Davis shoot MacPhail, and two others testified that Davis confessed to them. Although the murder weapon was not recovered, ballistic evidence presented at trial linked bullets recovered at or near the scene to those at another shootvis was beating the man with a gun after demanding a beer from him. No gun was found and no DNA evidence conclusively linked Davis to the murder.Davis' death was delayed for hours while the US Supreme Court considered an 11th-hour appeal for clemency. The 42-year-old's case was heavily disputed after most of the witnesses recanted or changed their testimony. Outside the jail in Jackson, Georgia, there was a heavy police presence earlier as his supporters demonstrated. Davis was convicted in 1991, but maintained he was innocent.
The US Supreme Court judges took more than four hours to issue their rejection of the final appeal, an unusually long time for such a ruling. "The application for stay of execution of sentence of death presented to Justice [Clarence] Thomas and by him referred to the Court is denied," it read. Davis continued to protest his innocence in the death chamber. Davis's execution date had already been moved several times."I did not have a gun," he said, "For those about to take my life, may God have mercy on your souls. May God bless your souls." Davis was pronounced dead at 23:08 (03:08 GMT Thursday), 15 minutes after the lethal injection began. On Wednesday morning, Davis' lawyers appealed to the county court responsible for Georgia's death row, but that was also rejected. The legal team had argued that ballistic testing from the case was flawed. The pardons board also dismissed an appeal to reconsider their decision on Monday to deny Davis clemency. Prosecutors said they had no doubts as to his guilt. Davis counted among his supporters Pope Benedict XVI and former US President Jimmy Carter, as well as US conservative figures like representative Bob Barr and former FBI director William Sessions. Outside the prison, hundreds of people gathered chanting: "They say, death row; we say, hell no". Around 10 counter-demonstrators were also present, voicing support for the death penalty and for the family of MacPhail. ( From BBc News)
Troy Davis was born 9 October 1968, in Savannah, Georgia. Time not known, which limits the interpretation somewhat. So noon is used. A first look at his chart shows no obvious indications of someone who could be a murderer. The usual Saturn/Uranus/Neptune/Pluto/Chiron aspects linked to Mars are missing in the natal chart. There is a Jupiter-Pluto conjunction, which is sextile Neptune and both link into Saturn by quincunx. As Saturn opposes the Sun this now personalises this aspect. It can be interpretated as a powerful belief in his innocence that is linked to the restriction of his life force. The ruthlessness of the Jupiter-Pluto philosophy can sometimes be evident where death is seen as acceptable if it is for the greater good. If we take a look at the midpoints we see that the Mars/Saturn midpoint makes a T-square with Uranus and Chiron. This can be an indication of the sudden violence resulting in wounding or death. At the time of the murder, transiting Uranus was at 1-31' degrees Capricorn, making a Grand Cross and transiting Mercury was on Jupiter.The progressed chart (outer wheel) indicates possible violent incidents by the conjunction of the progressed Mars, first to Jupiter (pushing the boundaries), and then to Pluto where issues connected to power were likely to present themselves. These could have led to the involvement with murder either as the victim or the perpetrator.
Davis' final words are reported as follows: " I'd like to address the MacPhail family. Let you know, despite the situation you are in, I'm not the one who personally killed your son, your father, your brother. I am innocent. The incident that happened that night is not my fault. I did not have a gun. All I can ask ... is that you look deeper into this case so that you really can finally see the truth. I ask my family and friends to continue to fight this fight.
