Toro by Roy MacKinnon Toro is a small asteroid of about two miles in diameter, which was discovered on 17th July 1948. It also gives it name to a class of asteroids that have an orbital resonance Earth, as Toro does. This implies that these asteroids have an orbit that has a link to Earth's orbit in such a way that the orbits cross but never present hazardous potential collision circumastances. The resonance is 8/5 between Toro and Earth, Toro also resonates with Venus at 13/5. The orbit takes this asteroid to beyond Mars and then swings in to that of Venus crossing Earth en route. For the moment the orbit seems stable, is of about 1.5 years and the stony asteroid rotates on its axis once in approxiamately 10 hours. The word 'Toro' is Spanish for bull and so it is no surprise in finding that in astrology the asteroid refers to situations involving strength and power. Therefore, there are connections to the energies of Mars and Pluto. In horoscopes, Toro endows power or strength to the planet it touches. If there is a trine to Venus then this may symbolise someone who has strong values. If Toro is square to Uranus then the person may experience difficulty in expressing his/her individuality. They could have bursts of violence where the energy disharmoniously surfaces. They could also experience fear or paranoia through being victimised by others who have disruptive or posiibly violent, certainly insociable personalities. In synastry, similar outcomes are likely. When favourable, the strength to engage harmoniously in constructive, energetic projects is encouraged. In difficult aspects, power struggles may result. PANDORA Pandora was discovered on 10th September 1858 and is quite a large asteroid with a diameter of some 40 miles. It orbits as a main belt asteroid beyond the orbit of Mars in approximately 4.5 years. It is a stony asteroid having little inclination or eccentricity In mythology, the first woman was created by the gods and called Pandora. The different gods each offered or taught her a different skill. However, Zeus provided her with a box as punishment for people using Prometheus's gift of fire. When the box was opened all the evils of the world were released, only hope remained contained. In astrology, Pandora represents the principle of innovation and unexpectedness - like a type of Uranus. Flowing aspects symbolise innovation curiosity and change with respect to the planet that it is contacting. Pandora trine the Sun may represent an individual who is unconventional and somewhat rebellious, possibly inventive. If square to the Sun then the person may be unacceptably disruptive and unsettling or aternatively, resist change, not wanting to 'rock the boat'. In synastry, Pandora contacts represents points where others can be stirred up and put through change. If the aspects are challenging then these can symbolise disruptive behaviour patterns that are unacceptable to others.
