The Fixed Stars

They are called Fixed Stars to differentiate them from Planets (Wanderers) and of course are stars like our Sun which make up the vast majority of the twinkling points of light to be seen in the night sky. In astrology they only have relevance when in close contact with our horoscope planets. They have no astrological significance or light otherwise. Their homes are the constellations, the groups of stars we see in the heavens out of which our astrological signs emerged. Traditionally, the conjunction is most important although the square and the opposition can also be used. Do not use the trine or sextile though. For the brighter stars listed below an orb of 2.5 degrees can be used for the conjunction and a single degree for the opposition and the square. The condition of the illuminating planet will determine whether the influence should be seen as more beneficial or more challenging but each star has a range of qualities and some stars are more positive in general than others. The positions given are for January, 1989 and there is a brief indication of the significance of each star quoted. Stars have a microscopic movement in general because of Precession of the Equinoxes and their position in the birth chart should be adjusted by 60 minutes of arc for every 72 years or proportion thereof. So, somebody born in 1953 which is 36 years earlier than 1989 should have their fixed star positions reduced by 30 minutes of arc.ALPHERATZ Aries 14-03.Gives independence, honour, intellect, positive attunement to higher forces when well aspected but pretensions if afflicted, generally fortunate.ALGOL Taurus 26-08Traditionally is considered the most evil star in the sky, depends on conjuncting planet condition, possible death and decapitation, possible victory over others, good counsellor, dental issues, healer, trauma, spiritual.ALCYONE Taurus 29-52Possible blindness from illness, grief and bereavement and excellent counsellor for those suffering likewise, spiritual, optimistic, wanton.ALDEBARAN Gemini 9-36One of the 4 Royal Stars, Archangel Michael, militant or martial, intelligence, eloquence, possible public honours, possible power.RIGEL Gemini 16-32Courageous, possible vanity, benevolence, anger and bad temper possibly, good fortune, honours, successful.SIRIUS Cancer 13-54Immense creative talent, success in chosen field of endeavour, possible psychosis, faithfulness, devotion, custodians, resentment, honour.POLLUX Cancer 23-02Audacious, quarrelsome, cruel, possible occult interests, philosophical, investigative mind, possibly crafty.REGULUS Leo 29-38One of the 4 Royal Stars, Archangel Raphael, where obligations are met then long life, fortunate, high office, esteem: possible violence, fond of power, desirous of command, possible disgrace.MARKEB Virgo 28-19Spiritual, may give long term devotion to others, wide knowledge, educational work, voyages actual or of the mind.SPICA Libra 23-36Usually confers spiritual and religious qualities, essential goodness usually, psychic, fortunate, successful, sweet disposition, wealth, advancement beyond expectation.ARCTURUS Libra 23-56A protector when unselfishly used, high renown, self-determination, much fortune, anxieties through own folly.ACRUX Scorpio 11-40Generally gives religious beneficence, interested in magic and mystery, frequently prominent in horoscopes of astrologers.BUNGULA Scorpio 29-17Enthusiastic, possibly self-sacrificing, beneficence, refinement, position of honour, popular, variable character.ANTARES Sagittarius 9-40One of the 4 Royal Stars, Archangel Uriel, optimistic, success in battles, very energetic, cutting edge of human knowledge, possible malevolence, rashness, broadmindedness, headstrong.VEGA Capricorn 15-09Usually indicates popularity with friends and associates, beneficence, hopefulness, grave but can be pretentious and lascivious.ALTAIR Aquarius 1-34Respect for one’s fellow human beings usually but sometimes not if afflicted: bold, confident, ambitious, liberal, unyielding, possible position of command, guilty of bloodshed, transient wealth.FOMALHAUT Pisces 3-30One of the 4 Royal Stars, Archangel Gabriel, contributes good ideas when needed, can speak up when needed, danger of empty words, transformation from material to spiritual, honour, fame.SCHEAT Pisces 28-59Can attain through mastery but lack of energy control can lead to violence and misfortune, possible loss at sea, storms, endings, grief, mental creativity.Further information on fixed stars can be obtained from three books:-1) The Living Stars by Dr. Eric Morse2) The Fixed Stars & Constellations in Astrology by Vivian Robson3) Fixed Stars & Their Interpretation by Reinhold Ebertin & Georg HoffmanDr Morse’s work does couch the fixed star interpretations in a modern, psychologically orientated way. They are called Fixed Stars to differentiate them from Planets (Wanderers) and of course are stars like our Sun which make up the vast majority of the twinkling points of light to be seen in the night sky.
