Saif-al-Gadaffi

Saif-al-Islam Gaddafi 23 August 2011

Saif al-Islam Muammar al-Gaddafi (born June 25, 1972, Arabic: translated as "Sword of Islam, Muammar of the Qaddafa", is a Libyan engineer and politician. He is the second son of Muammar Gaddafi, former leader of Libya, and his second wife Safia Farkash. He is a part of his father's inner circle, performing public relations and diplomatic roles on behalf of his father. In Libya, he was during his father's reign the second most-widely recognized official after his father and had been mentioned as a possible successor, though he has denied this.Saif was instrumental in negotiations that led to Libya's abandoning a weapons of mass destruction programme in 2002–2003. He arranged several important business deals on behalf of the Libyan regime in the period of rapprochement that followed. He was viewed as a reformer, and has openly criticized the regime:a congressional aide asked him what Libya needed most. His one-word answer: democracy. "You mean Libya needs more democracy?" the aide asked. "No. 'More democracy’ would imply that we had some," Saif said.

In 2003, he published a report critical of Libya's record on human rights. On December 10, 2004, shortly before a trip by Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin to Tripoli, in an interview with The Globe and Mail Saif requested a formal apology from the Canadian government, for joining U.S.-led sanctions against Libya after the Lockerbie bombing, and for denying him a student visa to study in Canada in 1997. His request was met with incredulity in Canada, and the Canadian government announced that no apology would be forthcoming. (From Wikipedia)Col Muammar Gaddafi's son, Saif al-Islam, has appeared in Tripoli and claimed the government had "broken the backbone" of the rebel offensive there. He turned up in a government vehicle at a hotel held by loyalists, a day after the rebels said they had detained him.Rebel leader Mustafa Abdul Jalil claimed fighters were in control of 95% of the city. But the BBC's correspondent Matthew Price, in Tripoli, says it is still unclear who is winning the battle for the capital. Saif al-Islam Gaddafi turned up in the early hours of Tuesday at the Rixos Hotel, where many international journalists are based. I asked Saif al-Islam Gaddafi where he saw the balance of power in Tripoli: "We gave them a hard time, so we are winning," he told me. He seemed pumped full of adrenalin and brimming with confidence. Precisely who is winning the battle for Tripoli, though, is still unclear. In parts of the capital, rebel forces are in control. After their astonishing advance over the weekend, they believe victory is within sight.

But Gaddafi forces have been reinforced and some rebel supply lines into the city seem to have come under attack. It is clear loyalists are fighting back in some areas and many casualties are being reported. The sudden appearance of Saif al-Islam, said only on Sunday to have been captured by the rebels, will merely embolden them further. He told the BBC: "We have broken the backbone of the rebels." He added that by moving into Tripoli, the rebels had fallen into "a trap". His apparent arrest was confirmed by the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has indicted him, his father and the head of the intelligence service, Abdullah al-Senussi, on war crimes charges. UK International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell blamed the "fog of warfare" for the confusion over Saif al-Islam's reported arrest.Saif -al-Islam Gaddafi was born on 25 June 1972, Tripoli, Libya. Time not known so I have used noon. Let us take a look at his chart. There is an obvious T-square made up of the Sun in Cancer opposite Jupiter in Capricorn and Pluto as the apex planet in Virgo. This is an indication of an over-inflated ego, a need to be in control coupled with a rebellious determination to succeed and a 'might makes right attitude'.

The sextile from Pluto to the Mars -Mercury conjunction gives a certain oratory power that has ability to influence many people, particularly as he is able to do so in a sensitive manner (trine Neptune). Pluto is also on his Mercury/Neptune midpoint and can be an indication of nervous self-deception and a powerful imagination, which could be expressed with sympathy towards other people. But the square to Venus is an indication of manipulation used to advance his own interests. Saturn in Gemini forms a wedge with Uranus and Chiron and suggests acquired discipline applied to projects that may threaten his independence. This may be a problem since the Sun/Mercury is at 14-24' degrees Cancer. One would rightly assume that a number of transits are activating Saif's chart. All the cardinal planets will be affected at some time or another. Right now, Saturn is at 14-18' degrees Libra, conjunct his Uranus, restricting his freedom. Uranus is at 3-49'R Aries, square his Sun and has brought about disruption and change. Tr Pluto at 5-02'R Capricorn is opposing his Sun and on his Mars/Saturn midpoint. This is a difficult combination of energies and indicates that he is under violent attack from forces that are demanding change and transformation of all that is corrupt. He will be inclined to fight on and stand firm, determined to prove his might, when what is really required is to relinguish his personal power for the greater good. L.S.
