Progressions

On the left is a bi-wheel of the natal (inner) and progressed chart (outer) for Queen Elizabeth II. D.o.b. 21/04/1926, 02.40am, London, England. The progressed chart is set for 30th March 2002, the date her Mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon passed away. Only six weeks earlier, on 9th February 2002, her sister Princess Margaret died, making this a very difficult time for her. We look to see if any of the inner planets (Sun to Mars) are in aspect to the outer planets (from Jupiter outwards). These can be aspects from the inner to the outer wheel or aspects within the outer wheel (the progressed chart). The progressed Sun at 13 degrees Cancer is conjunct Pluto. It has passed Pluto in the natal chart already and was exact the previous year. I say a year because in the progressed chart the Sun moves forward about one degree per year. This indicates that issues connected to death and transfor- mation are having to be confronted. The progressed Moon was part of a T-Square with Jupiter-Saturn and the M/C when her sister died indicating a depressing and emotionally difficult time for her and her family.

PROGRESSIONS by Liz seddon A day for a year Progressions indicate the movement of the planets only days after birth. A person's planetary positions for age ninety are found ninety days following the birth. This is a symbolic sky as the planets are not really occupying these portions of the sky on the individual's ninetieth birthday. So, you look up in the ephemeris the number of days corresponding to the number of years you want to progress. So for age twenty-five you add twenty five days to the date of birth and read off the position of the planets accordingly and compare them to the natal chart. We look at the inner planets only, from the Sun to Mars as the others don't move very much. In the predictive system known as transits, the planets are in a real portion of the sky. Transits are the positions of the planets as they are currently moving through the sky. With transits we look mainly at the positions of the planets from Jupiter outwards, and Chiron. We are infants during the first years of our transits and adults when we look back at these same planetary movements in terms of progressions. Progressions are small units of time equalling or symbolising greater units of time. Transits are similar to the actual distance we need to travel while progressions resemble the scale on a map where one quarter of an inch equals twenty five miles. Progressions (especially secondary progressions such as described here) and transits are predictive systems that can be used to better comprehend past, present and future time periods. There are other types of progressions in addition to secondary. Each involves the symbolic equivalent of one unit of time with another. For example: Minor progressions equate one lunar month after birth with one year of a person's life. Tertiary progressions equate a day after birth with a lunar month in the life. Converse progressions apply the above principles but move evrything backward rather than forward. There is another system known as Directions involving positions which did not ever occur in the sky. In Directions, the whole chart is rotated a certain amount, depending on the type of directions being used. In Solar Arc directions, everything in the natal chart is moved the same distance as was travelled by the Sun in secondary progressions. Since the Sun moves about one degree per year in secondary progressions, to find the positions of the planets in Solar Arc directions for a person's twenty-fifth birthday, twenty five degrees are added to each natal planet in the chart. For example, if the natal Moon is at ten degrees Aries, the Solar Arc directed Moon (for age 25) would be five degrees of Taurus. (10 + 25=35 =5 degrees Taurus). Aspects are considered between Solar Arc planets and natal planets. The orb is one degree. You do not consider the aspects formed by Solar Arc planets to each other because their angular distances are the same as in the natal chart.
