Pluto through the 20th centurty ...Pluto through the signs during the 20th Century by Denise Woodall Pluto was dicovered on 18th February 1930 by Clyde W.Tombaugh. It is the second largest known dwarf planet in the solar system (after Eris) and the tenth largest body observed directly orbiting the Sun. Pluto is composed of rock and ice and is relatively small. It has a highly eccentric orbit (from 30-49 AU) and a highly inclined orbit of 248 years. Astrologically, Pluto is connected into issues of power, joint finance, obsession and transformation. It represents death and transformation, regeneration and re-birth. It destroys, purifies, purges and renews. It takes from 13 - 32 years to travel through the signs of the Zodiac and therefore has a generational influence. The collective influence of Pluto and its effect in changes of attitudes and needs of the different generations can be seen as it travelled through the different signs in the 20th Century. Pluto in Cancer from 1912 -1939 Pluto was discovered when it was transiting the sign of Cancer. Cancer relates to home and family, emotional security and ones' roots. During this time there was a growth in nationalism and World War I broke out bringing conflict between nations. Many men had to leave the security of their homes to fight for their country while others stayed at home to defend and protect their homeland. Family life was undergoing fundamental changes and would never be the same again. Pluto in Leo from 1939 - 1956 People born under the sign of Leo are outgoing, confident, egotistical, bossy, loyal and very proud. Pluto passing through this sign could be observed for the first time from beginning to end. World war II broke out and once again people risked their lives fighting for their country's honour and pride. Leo, the lion is king of the jungle and Leos can be born leaders. Dictators appeared at this time along with the Mafia and racketeering. People wanted power and status to enhance their ego. After the war, they started to build up their own business. They became hungry for personal power (now called peoples' power). You had to be ruthless in business and many people took enormous risks and large international companies were formed. Status was measured by profit and financial gain. Mass production came into being with many people working in factories on production lines. The Pluto in Leo generation became very self-centred. A baby boom was produced with egocentric Leo becoming the 'me first' generation who looked with disdain at the previous generation's need for security. They had more time for hobbies and leisure and many believed they were genius material. People started to write biographies and not only made a lot of money in doing so but also allowed the public to see what they were really like. People generally became more open and transformed the way in which they expressed themselves. Pluto in Virgo from 1956 -1971 The sign of Virgo connects into analysing, criticism, perfectionism, purity and service to others. When the transformative powers of Pluto transited 'pure' Virgo, people became very interested in the protection of the environment and pollution. They worried about the damage to the ozone layer and the effect it had on the purity of the air. Pluto's influence here was to transform the Earth by clearing all the rubbish and toxic materials and thinking up methods of recycling materials we used during our everyday lives. We saw the introduction of alternative medicine. Counselling and therapy became popular. People became obsessed about details and obsessed about being perfect. Many underwent the pain of plastic surgery to transform their bodies to 'perfection'. Calorie counting diets became popular to keep them in perfect health. The planet Uranus (disruption and change) was also in Virgo in the sixties - both powerful planets. There was student unrest and criticism of the older generation. The young wanted to change values and standards in the world and publicly protested to show their strong feelings. The pocket calculator was invented and technology started to grow. 65This website was created using MAGIX Website Maker You will need the current version of Adobe Flash Player to view it.
