Pluto in Libra 1971 -1983 The sign of Libra's characteristics are harmony, charm, beauty and balance. People born under this sign are generally charming and easy-going. They like harmony and balance in their lives. They are diplomats and refined and are usually committed partners in relationships. All indicative of the Venusian energy, its ruler. When Pluto entered Libra the whole area of marriage and partnership was transformed. Many people lived together rather than go through an official marriage. People wanted a marriage of equals in which both had equal power. The contraceptive pill gave women the freedom from unwanted pregnancies and may have been the start of 'Girl Power'. America entered into the Vietnam war but many people refused to fight and marched for 'Peace'. Others, however, empowered by Pluto's energy, committed awful atrocities. Pluto in Scorpio 1983 - 1995 Pluto is the natural ruler of Scorpio and its sign is indicative of a powerful energy that lies hidden, waiting to erupt. People born with a strong Scorpio influence are likely to be sexually intense, magnetic, manipulative, obsessive and fearless. When Pluto entered its own sign it was closer to the Earth than neptune and, incidentally, there were several earthquakes at this time. As ruler of this sign its strength is increased here. This was the time to do away with the illusions (Neptune) and get closer to the truth (Pluto). People were more concerned with deeper issues. Pluto in Sagittarius 1995 -2009 The sign of Sagittarius relates to all things of a philosophical nature, to religion, foreign travel and cultures and adventures. People born with this sign strong in their chart are outgoing and optimistic. They have a thirst for knowledge and love to expand their minds through education and are natural teachers. Since Pluto's transit through this sign we have seen changes in the fundamental set-up of religious institutions. Cetainly, more people are able to go on to further education than ever before but also leave with massive debts (Pluto). During this time changes in the Law and Justice system are likely. People have become greedy for money and many have brought lawsuits over trivial matters but for hefty financial sums. Many solicitors work on a 'no win - no fee' basis, fading out expensive legal fees. In myhtology Pluto (Hades to the Greeks) was the God of the underworld. He rode his chariot out of the underworld on a beautiful spring day and raped Persephone, the daughter of Ceres. Against her will, Persephone became his 'friend ' and he made her Queen of the Underworld. She became empowered through the experience of loss of innocence and ignorance. Power and the abuse of power are Plutonian issues. As Pluto has been transiting these signs during the 20th Century, not only have we seen its power used to hurt and destroy but also to rebuild and in so doing transformed generations and nations throughout the world.
