Novak Djokovic Wins Wimbledon 4th July 2011
Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic was confirmed as the new world number one when the ATP rankings were released on today.Djokovic, who beat Rafael Nadal in Sunday's final, was already guaranteed to move ahead of the Spaniard following the Serb's semi-final defeat of Jo-Wilfrid Tsonga. It ends Nadal's 56-week rein since he took over from Roger Federer on June 7, 2010.Not since Andy Roddick in the week of January 26, 2004 has anyone other than Nadal or Federer been ranked number one."This is an amazing achievement to get to the top spot, especially with rivals such as Rafa and Roger," said Djokovic. "They made me work so hard and made me improve every day. There are no words to express how good they are but I always thought that I could become number one one day. Both the belief and the hard work took me there."
It is the natural culmination of an extraordinary first half of the year for Djokovic who has now won 48 of 49 matches in 2011 and claimed eight titles, including the Australian Open and now Wimbledon. At 24 years, 1 month, 12 days, Djokovic is the 25th player since the rankings began in 1973 to hold the number one position and the first Serb to do so.He is one of only four players (David Nalbandian, Andy Murray, and Rafael Nadal being the other three) to beat Roger Federer three times in one calendar year. He is also one of four players (Nalbandian, Murray and Nikolay Davydenko being the other) to beat Federer and Nadal in the same tournament twice, accomplishing that feat when he won the 2011 Indian Wells Masters 1000 event. He is also the youngest player in the Open Era to defeat the top three players in succession and he achieved this when he defeated world number three Andy Roddick, world number two Nadal, and World number one Federer in the 2007 Rogers Cup. He is one of only two players to have defeated Federer at the semifinal stage or later on more than one occasion in Grand Slam tournaments, and also at consecutive tournaments (the other being Nadal). He started playing tennis at the age of four, and was spotted by Yugoslav tennis legend Jelena Genčić at the age of eight, who stated: "This is the greatest talent I have seen since Monica Seles."
At 12 years old, he spent three months at Nikola Pilić's tennis academy in Munich, Germany, and at age 14, his international career began, winning European championships in singles, doubles, and team competition. He resides in Monte Carlo, Monaco and has been coached by a former Slovak tennis player, Marián Vajda; in August 2009, he began working with former US top-five player Todd Martin. (from Wikipedia)Novak Djokovic was born 22 May 1987, 10.35am, Belgrade, Serbia. There are a number of wedges in his chart. A wedge consists of an opposition, a trine and a sextile aspect. If the energy of the opposite planets can be integrated then this configuration can be very helpful. There are three wedges in Djokovic's chart. The first two consist of Mars trine Pluto, sextile Venus, which is opposite Pluto, which sextiles Neptune, which trines Venus. Mars also opposes Neptune. Then there is a wedge from Mercury opposite Saturn trine Jupiter, which is sextile Mercury. This combination suggests that he is a disciplined athlete, one who is determined and able to succeed at getting what he wants and in realising his dream.
There is a Saturn-Uranus conjunction, which is opposite Mars and Chiron conjunct Mercury. They make a t-square with the Moon in Pisces. This is an indication of his strength that is used in a controlled and detached manner in order to beat his opponents. And with his Sun on the Mars/Midheaven midpoint, attainment of success in life is likely. L.S.
