Minneapolis bridge collapseThe bridge was opened on Boxing Day, 1967 at 3pm (21-00 UT) so had been in existence for 40 years. The collapse occurred on 1st August, 2007 at 23-05 (UT) when some 80 vehicles were actually on the bridge. Vibration from vehicles may have exacerbated and invited the inevitable. Loss of life was surprisingly small. There were 13 people killed, 7 of them directly from the bridge collapse and another 6 as a result of drowning in the river below. It seems as though for recent time the bridge had undergone one repair after another. However, much of the problem stemmed from the installation of concrete structures to separate eastbound from westbound traffic. Inspection of the remnants of the bridge revealed that the combination of this concrete, the passage of time and corrosion, and the fact that a steel plate too thin to do the supportive job now being asked of it, led to the shearing of the plate. This was also a bridge badly designed. It was known that if a pivotal part of the structure failed then the whole bridge would collapse not just the affected section. By using this poorer design and saving on metal consumption the cost of the bridge was minimised and kept lower than clearly safety limits dictated. On 2nd May, 2008 the state paid out some $38 Million to victims of the disaster.Bridge opening astrology:-Venus – Scorpio 22-46: Pluto – Virgo 22-52R: Pylenor – Virgo 23-21:Chiron – Pisces 25-28: Neptune – Scorpio 25-29: Asc/Mercury – Virgo 22-37: Saturn/TL66 – Virgo 23-12: Sun/Asc. – Virgo 23-13.Bridge collapse astrology:-Moon – Pisces 17-13: Uranus – Pisces 18-06R: Pylenor – Gemini 18-42: Jupiter/Pluto – Gemini 18-18: Jupiter/Ascendant – Gemini 18-50: Chiron/MC - Gemini 19-07.Mercury – Cancer 24-47: Venus/Pylenor – Cancer 25-33:Moon/Pylenor – Taurus 2-57: Deucalion – Taurus 3-22: Uranus/Pylenor – Taurus 3-24.
