FUNCHAL, Madeira Islands - Rescue workers dug frantically Sunday to free cars and homes buried under heaps of mud in Madeira, after torrential flash floods and mudslides killed at least 42 people on the popular Portuguese island.Residents looking for missing loved ones were directed by local authorities to the resort's international airport, where a makeshift morgue has been set up.Social services spokesman Francisco Jardim Ramos said not all the bodies had been identified. The center is equipped with psychiatric, psychological and social counseling services, he said.More than 120 others were injured and an unknown number were missing, possibly swept away or smothered, authorities said, adding that they expected the death toll to rise.Late Sunday, a spokeswoman for the British Foreign office confirmed that a British national had died, but declined to give further details. The spokeswoman spoke on condition of anonymity in line with department policy. The Foreign Office also said a small number of Britons had been hospitalized on Madeira. The island is popular with British tourists, who for centuries have regarded wines made in Madeira as a luxury product.Heavy rain lashed the island Saturday, turning some streets in capital of Funchal into raging rivers of mud, water and debris. The storm — the worst to hit the island since 1993 — also displaced a number of homes.

This aspect should not be surprising here as this particular chart was set up after a military coup in which the prime minister at the time (Caetano) had handed over power to General Spinola.This difficult aspect has been 'hit' recently by transiting Pluto opposing the Mars/Saturn conjunction and squaring its natal position, making a t-square, thus setting in motion this very forceful violent energy. While at the same time the Flood Saturn has been conjunct the Potugese natal Pluto, echoing this difficult energy again. On Saturday, transiting Mars was on the Sun/Pluto midpoint, adding to the destuctive power . Transiting Uranus is quincunx the natal Uranus and semi-sextile Neptune and Chiron. Natal Jupiter is on that same Neptune, Chiron/ Uranus midpoint indicating the sudden (Uranus) expanse (Jupiter) of water (Neptune) causing death/wounding (Chiron).
