Helio centric astrology

HELIOCENTRIC ASTROLOGY by Roy MacKinnon By geocentric astrology we imply that longitude coordinates are calculated using the Earth as the focal point. What is indicated in heliocentric astrology is the calculation of the same positions but using the Sun as the central point. With regard to the more distant planets such as Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto their great distance results in there being little difference in the position of these outer planets – maybe up to 10 degrees for Jupiter but 5 degrees or less for the others. Where there can be a considerable difference is with the personal planets. Mars can often be over 30 degrees different in the heliocentric from the geocentric while with regard to Venus and Mercury their position can be completely different – because of their relative proximity to Earth. Since in the heliocentric chart the Sun is at the centre then there is no Sun in the helio chart – but there is an Earth which occupies the position exactly opposite to the solar position in the geocentric chart. Another unusual feature of the helio chart is the fact that Mercury and Venus can square or oppose one another something which is impossible in the ordinary geo chart. The ordinary geo chart with its Ascendant tells something about how the native lives life with reference to their personality and their ability to relate to circumstances on Earth. The helio chart says something which is more deeply held, more solar, more essential and spiritual. For this reason it may not be so easily seen but once perceived is unmistakeable. Because it is more deeply held its qualities are unlikely to be projected onto another – quite unlike the problems often being presented geocentrically. In Queen Elizabeth II’s chart Mercury is in Aries and Venus in Pisces something which can be easily perceived in her interaction directly, on TV etc with her British subjects. However, in the helio, Mercury is at Sagittarius 13 and Venus at 14 both sextile to Jupiter at Aquarius 12. This shows that essentially the Queen is a character of great integrity, somebody who has her own individualistic views but a person who also espouses moral and spiritual values and likely to speak the truth. This is self evident to people who have watched and listened to her on radio and TV but who may only have been slightly aware of these qualities in her until pointed out to them. In synastry there can be contacts between the helio chart of one person and that of the helio chart of another. The Queen has her Helio Mars at Capricorn 9 right opposite Prince Philip’s Helio Pluto at Cancer 8. This is a sexual attractant between them. However, there can interestingly also be connections in synastry between the geo chart of the one and the helio chart of the other. For example, Prince Philip has Helio Jupiter at Virgo 21 and Helio Venus at Capricorn 20 closely conjunct the Queen’s Ascendant (by definition – geo) at Capricorn 21. There is more to this fascinating aspect of astrology but hopefully this small piece offers a taster.
