Actress Googie Withers, best known for starring in Alfred Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes and TV series Within These Walls, has died in Australia aged 94. She died at her home on Friday.She was born Georgette Lizette Withers. Withers was born in Karachi (then part of British India but now in Pakistan) to a British sailor and a Dutch mother, she was known as "Googie" from an early age. Withers's family moved back to Britain from India and she began acting at age 12. She was working as a dancer in a West End production in London when she was offered work in 1935 as a film extra in The Girl in the Crowd. She played Blanche in 1938's The Lady Vanishes, opposite Margaret Lockwood and Michael Redgrave.
Later in her career she appeared in several television productions, including prison drama Within These Walls on ITV and the BBC's Hotel du Lac and Northanger Abbey. In 1958, Withers moved to Australia with her husband, Australian actor John McCallum - he helped create the classic television series, Skippy the Bush Kangaroo. The couple co-starred in 10 films, and they lived together in Sydney until McCallum died last year at the age of 91.She was the first non-Australian to be awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia and was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2002. Her last role was in the 1996 Australian movie Shine. In 2002, aged eighty-five, she appeared with Vanessa Redgrave in Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan in London's West End.
Googie Withers was born in Karachi, which was part of India at that time (now Pakistan) on 12 March 1917. Time not known so noon used.Looking at her chart it is not surprising that she became a dancer and actress at a young age. There is a stellium of four planets plus Chiron in Pisces, bestowing her with sensitivity and an ability to take on others' personalities - as in acting. One way or another, they all make positive aspects to Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto indicating ability to extend her considerable talents and become respected in her field of work. Not having her t.o.b. I can't include the Moon here.Neptune, the ruler of Pisces squares Jupiter and has found a perfect positive outlet in acting, at least some of the time.
