HOUSE RULERSHIP, DISPOSITORS by Roy MacKinnon While it is clearly prudent in horoscope interpretation to focus on planetary configurations, it is also important to look at house rulers in the sequence of their dispositorship. By 'dispositorship' I mean that it is important to look to see where the ruler of the house is by sign, identify the ruler of the sign, where that planet is by house and sign. Likewise, identify the ruler of that latest sign and look to see where the ruler of that sign is located. This process of linking planets through the signs they rule is known as the ' Chain of Dispositorship'. Let us look at the chart of Bill Gates.

Clearly, the astrologer might well initiallyfocus on the close T-square of Uranus in the 1st House close to the Ascendant with Chiron opposite in Aquarius, on the cusp of the 7th House square to Neptune conjunct the Sun at the bottom of the chart. This will tell you much about Gates's need, indeed struggle, to found and consolidate his computer software empire. However, here is an alternative approach.Gates has Cancer rising. Cancer is ruled by the Moon and it is found elevated in Aries, close to the M.C. So, the astrologer can see immediately that Gates derives his emotional security (Cancer) by focussing in on his career (Moon conjunct M.C.). The Moon is in Aries and is opposed by Mars in Libra on the Saturn/Pluto midpoint. This points to Gates wanting to work energetically, indeed independently, and with great determination (Mars, Saturn and Pluto) towards establishing his business interests but involving a partnership (Libra).

Now, Venus rules Libra and is to be found closely conjunct Saturn in Scorpio. This suggests that one underpinning reason for Gates's dedication to such work is the need to earn out of fear of poverty (Venus conjunct Saturn). The conjunction is in Scorpio, but note it's ruler Pluto is to be found in Leo closely conjunct Jupiter in the 2nd House. This conjunction immediately advises the likely financial success of his endeavours since Jupiter is blessing Pluto in the house of money earned. Leo is ruled by the Sun and the Sun is found in Scorpio, which is Pluto ruled. Here the chain of dispositorship ends. This is because the Sun and Pluto are in mutual reception. They dispose each other since each rules the sign occupied by the other. The flavour of self-expression through financial power is self evident. This technique of pursuing the chain of dispositorship is an alternative method of chart interpretation.
