An immensely powerful cyclone has struck the coast of Queensland, Australia a state which is still recovering from extensive and damaging flooding recently. The cyclone struck the coast just south of Cairns at approximately 2 PM GMT on 2nd February, 2011. It is thought that the cyclone one of the worst in Australia’s recorded history developed partly because of alleged global warming and the presence of La Nina the weather phenomenon whose counterpart is El Nino. The cyclone was classed as a category 5 storm – the highest possible grade and when it struck the Queensland coast wind speeds raged at 180 mph. These ferocious winds were accompanied by torrential rain and reports advise that roofs of houses have been completely blown away, trees have been completely uprooted and structural damage in general has been very extensive. Small towns like Mission Beach and Innisfail have been badly damaged and there are reports that the town of Tully has been absolutely devastated. However, the storm weakened and changed direction taking its eye away from the most densely populated areas and so the end result involved no human casualties although it has to be said that tens of thousands of people had left their homes temporarily to safer accommodation elsewhere. The storm was some 300 miles in diameter and afflicted areas for approximately four hours in its passage across affected parts of the country.
The astrology too is fascinating. The cyclone horoscope as a stand alone chart involves the conjunction of Sun and Mars in Aquarius. This explains why the Egyptian protesters in Cairo were involved in violence. It also accounts for unusual storms and snowfall in the USA and Canada and even hurricane force winds anticipated in the north of Scotland. What places an even greater focus on the conjunction is that Venus was in square to Uranus almost exactly and its midpoint fell on the Sun/Mars conjunction. Using the foundation date of Queensland (10th December, 1859) is to be noted the location of the Moon’s Node at Aquarius 12 which is very close to the Sun/Mars conjunction.
The location of Neptune at the end of Aquarius in the Cyclone chart forms a perfectly exact trine to Mars in Libra in the Queensland horoscope and perhaps explains why there was no loss of life in the storm. It also illustrates how Neptune governs storms.
