Christine Lagarde

Christine Lagarde- Head Of IMF 28 June 2011

From the BBC NewsChristine Lagarde will start her five-year term at the IMF on 5 July 2011.France's Christine Lagarde, 55, has been named the first woman to head the International Monetary Fund (IMF).The announcement of her appointment came soon after she received the backing of the US and Russia.Ms Lagarde, the French minister of finance since June 2007, was up against Mexico's Agustin Carstens. An IMF statement said that both candidates "were well qualified".The post became vacant following the resignation of Dominique Strauss-Kahn."The results are in: I am honoured and delighted that the board has entrusted me with the position of MD of the IMF!" Ms Lagarde said via Twitter minutes after the announcement. In a statement, the IMF said: "The executive board of the International Monetary Fund today selected Christine Lagarde to serve as IMF managing director and madame chairman of the executive board for a five-year term starting on July 5, 2011."Ms Lagarde, it said, was "the first woman named to the top IMF post since the institution's inception in 1944". The 24-member board called both Ms Lagarde and Mr Carstens, Mexico's central bank governor, "well-qualified candidates" and that it decided on Ms Lagarde "by consensus". Ms Lagarde toured the world drumming up support for her candidacy.

There were initially reports that many IMF members wanted the next managing director to come from an emerging market economy. But in the end Ms Lagarde won over some powerful allies among developing nations, including Brazil and China. The US, which along with Russia came out in favour of Ms Lagarde just hours before the appointment was announced, said her experience would be invaluable.US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said in a statement: "Minister Lagarde's exceptional talent and broad experience will provide invaluable leadership for this indispensable institution at a critical time for the global economy." She faces some tough challenges ahead - in particular the repercussions from the debt crisis currently engulfing several European countries. But Ms Lagarde will also have to deal with economic pressures in Asia, according to Charles Adams, of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore.

Christine Lagarde was born in Paris on 1 Jan 1956, time not known so noon used.It is immediately obvious that all the planets are in one section of the chart. Unfortunately, not having her t.o.b. we don't know what this section represents but this pattern is called a locomotive. The leading planet is Uranus in Leo and it ends with Venus in Aquarius. In between there are some challenging aspects that no doubt have made life difficult for her at times.First of all there is a Pluto-Jupiter conjunction in Leo which squares a Mars-Saturn conjunction in Scorpio and indicates the immense frustration she has struggled with. However, it also shows obsessive determination in getting what she wants. The sextile from Saturn and Mars to Mercury in Capricorn shows the inclination for figures and financial ability. It is interesting to note that the Sun in Capricorn is not making major aspects as such, but it is on a Mars/Pluto midpoint and confirms once again that this lady is single-mindedly determined to succeed. Then there is a t-square of Chiron/(Venus) with Uranus and Neptune. When negatively expressed this can be interpreted as the painful awakening from a valued ideal. However, when positive this can become an enlightened vision that could benefit humanity in some way. L.S.
