CHILE EARTHQUAKE Roy macKinnon 27th February 2010 The earthquake occurred on 27th. February, 2010 at 6-34 UT with epicentre offshore at Maule in Chile on co-ordinates of 35S51, 72W43. The earthquake is the 7th. largest in the world since modern records began at a magnitude of 8.8 although originally reported as magnitude of 8.3. There have been bad aftershocks one of them with a recorded magnitude of 6.9 The earthquake zone occurred where the Nazca tectonic plate collides with the South American tectonic plate..
A very large earthquake has struck Chile while people slept in their beds. The epicentre was offshore near the city of Concepcion which is the second largest town in Chile and which has suffered massive destruction of buildings and property. However, the death toll while considerable is so far not being reported as colossal. At the time of writing about 150 people are reported dead. Small tidal waves are already recorded as having reached some Pacific Islands and New Zealand and Hawaii is expecting substantial waves shortly. Tsunami warnings have been issued for the whole of the Pacific Ocean. Geologists are of the view that perhaps the tsunamis may not be devastating since the epicentre was at a considerable depth of 21 miles. This apparently can help to dissipate some of the power of the earthquake such as to disturb the ocean floor less disruptively.
The astrology is fascinating. The Midheaven is at Libra 3-02 almost exactly on Saturn at Libra 3-00. Saturn squares Pluto currently – not a good augury. The Ascendant is in Capricorn at 18-22. Interestingly and indicative of the violence of the earthquake the Mars/Pluto midpoint is in square in Libra at 18-06. However, the striking feature of the chart is the stellium in Aqaurius 26 degrees of Mercury, Neptune and Chiron followed by a conjunction of Jupiter with Sun in Pisces. The Chiron stellium is deadly and destructive but perhaps it is ameliorated somewhat by the Sun-Jupiter conjunction.Looking at the Chile chart of 5th April, 1818 is also interesting. The Chile chart Pluto is at Pisces 25-20 very close to where Transiting Uranus is now. Also note how Chile’s Mars at Cancer 5-13 opposes Transiting Pluto – highly indicative of a dangerous earthquake.
