The men assigned to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden were part of the US Navy's legendary special forces unit, the Seals. It was years in the planning but took just 40 minutes to execute.More than a dozen members of the US military were dropped near the high-walled, three-storey compound on the outskirts of Abbottabad in north-west Pakistan.After a brief firefight, five people were killed, including Osama Bin Laden, who reportedly received a shot above his left eye.All the US forces escaped unharmed, despite technical problems with one helicopter that they had to leave behind.It says everything about their presence of mind that despite the dangers, they collected hard drives, DVDs and documents from the building before they left.
From the US point of view, the mission, codenamed Geronimo, could hardly have gone any better, a reflection on the preparation and skills of the men who carried it out.The United States sought to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden for more than 15 years before tracking him down to a compound in north-western Pakistan, not far from a large town and the country's military academy. US senators have said the failure to find Bin Laden forever altered the course of the conflict in Afghanistan and the future of international terrorism, which left the American people and the world more vulnerable.Pakistan's government had dismissed reports that he was in the country, but it was widely believed that he was moving from village to village in the north-western region of Waziristan with a small group of bodyguards, where he would live under the protection of Pashtun tribal leaders. Some believed the failure to capture or kill Bin Laden was the result of collusion by Pakistani officials. Bin Laden was believed to communicate only once a month by courier, and never by telephone. He nevertheless managed to record video and audio messages which were either passed to media organisations, most notably al-Jazeera, or published on the internet. His last video tape was released in September 2007, while his last audio message came in January 2011. No doubt the rights and wrongs of Bin Laden's death will be the topic of much discussion for some time to come.Today, Al-Qaeda has confirmed the death of its leader, Osama Bin Laden, according to a statement attributed to the group and posted on jihadist internet forums. The statement said his blood would not be "wasted" and al-Qaeda would continue to attack the US and its allies.
Osama Bin Laden was born in Jiddah, Saudi Arabia on 10 March 1957. His time of birth is not known so noon is used.The Sun, Venus and Mercury in Pisces all square Saturn in Sagittarius. Saturn in the natal chart indicates a need to control in order to stave off fear and insecurity (among other things) and Sagittarius relates to all things of a foreign culture, religion and philosophy. It is now easy to see how his mind worked. Because he could not face his fears, he used this energy to attack others so that he would be in control and they would be fearful. The energy around control issues is further backed up by the square from Pluto in Leo to Mars in Taurus making a t-square with the N Node in Scorpio. Though this is a different kind of control, not brought about by fear but more by a loss of power. Probably by experiences in his early childhood. These are likely to have left him deeply angry, with an obsessive need for revenge that eventually would find an outlet and contribute to the death of many people.
The Sun and Jupiter in good aspect to Mars would have assured his success, at least for a while. By the way, Mars is also conjunct the fixed star Algol, the malefic star that brings calamity and loss to humanity. At the time of his capture transiting Saturn was on his Mars/Pluto midpoint indicating violence to the point of death. L.S.
