Atlantis Shuttle

ATLANTIS SHUTTLE LAUNCH – HUBBLE REPAIRS by Roy MacKinnon 13 May 2009 The Atlantis Shuttle Launch occurred exactly as planned when the team of astronauts left the launch pad 39A of the Kennedy Space Centre on their way to renovate and bring innovation to the Hubble Space Telescope. The project which had been delayed on various occasions before marks a unique moment in space engineering when the sophistication of the mission is considered. Astronauts were given extensive underwater training with regard to replacement of parts and installation of new devices where conditions of simulated weightlessness could be experienced. Not only are dysfunctional parts being replaced but new batteries are being fitted and in various ways there is an updating of technology to make Hubble spectacularly more advanced. A new spectrograph will reveal more detailed information concerning the formation of galaxies and stars. The different colours help to determine chemical makeup, temperature and motion. The new instrument COS (Cosmic Origins Spectrograph) will operate with a sensitivity which is ten times greater than its predecessor. There have been various camera faults but the installation of the new Wide Field Camera (WFC 3) to replace WFC 2 which will also ‘see’ in UV light and near Infrared will allow Hubble to view 100 times as many objects as before allowing photographs to be produced which penetrate further into the depths of the cosmos than any previous telescope. If successful, the mission will last eleven days in all and allow the enhanced Hubble Telescope to function for anything from five to ten years. The mundane data is as follows:- Launch Date – 11th May, 2009 Launch Time – 18-01 UT Launch Place – Cape Canaveral, 80W36, 28N24 Astrological Data: Ascendant – Virgo 3-03, Midheaven – Gemini 1-25, Sun – Taurus 21-10, Moon – Sagittarius 20-26 Mercury – Gemini 0-55, Venus – Aries 8-24, Mars – Aries 14-46, Jupiter – Aquarius 25-10, Saturn – Virgo 14-56R Uranus – Pisces 25-37, Neptune – Aquarius 26-24, Pluto – Capricorn 2-58R, Moon’s Node – Aquarius 2-41R Chiron – Aquarius 26-03, Ceres – Virgo 3-10, Sedna – Taurus 21-08 Some Astrological Pointers: With the extreme technical sophistication of the project in mind it is no surprise that Virgo rises. Ceres on the Ascendant helps to emphasise how the prime purpose of the mission is to rehabilitate, return to health and bring to optimum functioning the Hubble telescope. Pluto in Capricorn from the 5th House shows that this creative action is intended to transform the authority and structure of the telescope. The Moon in 4th House in Sagittarius and on the Saturn/Uranus midpoint shows the responsible detailed and innovative work required of the astronauts who must travel far to their destination. Mercury, ruler of Ascendant and Midheaven is dignified in Gemini and conjunct the Midheaven so the operation clearly will be very much in the public gaze. The stellium of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune is very close and symbolises the need to heal the distant vision of the telescope. The fact that the stellium broadly squares the Sun in Taurus shows that there are considerable practical difficulties which represent challenges and risks. Interestingly, the Sun very closely conjuncts Sedna and magnificently describes the positive side of Sedna. The telescope is expected to return (Sun) images from the most distant reaches of the universe, from the domain of Sedna which is ‘not of this world’.
