ALEXANDER SOLZHENITSYN by Roy MacKinnon Born on 11th December, 1918 at approximately 11-20 AM LMT at Kislovodsk, Russia (42E43 and 43N55). Brought up by his mother and aunt, Alexander and his siblings had an upbringing of abject poverty. The afflicted Moon and Chiron in the 2nd is stark evidence of this. From teenage years his longing to become a writer had been growing. Mars, the ruler of the 3rd House is exalted in Capricorn and is conjunct his Sun/Uranus and Venus/Ascendant midpoints suggesting his latent genius and talent in this area. He served with the Red Army in the Second World War but was arrested in February, 1945 for having made derogatory remarks about Stalin. In his absence he was sentenced to eight years hard labour in the Gulag on 7th July, 1945 to be followed by permanent internal exile. Sent to a camp for politicalprisoners Alexander worked as miner, bricklayer and foundry man. The transiting planetary positions for this momentous date to his natal chart are staggering. Transiting Pluto at Leo 9-07 is conjunct Natal Neptune at Leo 9-06. Transiting Neptune at Libra 3-47 is in square to Natal Mercury at Capricorn 3-23. Transiting Uranus at Gemini 15-07 opposed the Natal Sun/MC midpoint at Sagittarius 14-40 : the message loud and clear being ‘here freedom ceases’. Transiting Saturn at Cancer 14-26 conjuncts Natal Jupiter at Cancer 13-34. Note how Saturn is sometimes late. Transiting Jupiter at Virgo 21-28 opposes Natal Moon at Pisces 21-44. Transiting Mars at Taurus 18-43 is in quincunx to Natal Sun at Sagittarius 18-30. Interestingly, Transiting Sun at Cancer 14-45 closely conjuncts Transiting Saturn as above which conjuncts Natal Jupiter – a type of death of one life and the fated birth of another. Even Transiting Chiron at Virgo 28-39 opposes Natal Chiron at Pisces 28-58. The astrology of the death of Alexander is outstanding in the transits. Firstly, the solar eclipse of 1st August, 2008 is at Leo 9-32. This is conjunct Alexander’s 6th House Neptune at Leo 9-06. Then there is Transiting Neptune at date of death at Aquarius 23-09. This falls on Alexander’s Ascendant at Aquarius 23-16. Transiting Pluto at Sagittarius 28-49 aspects Alexander’s Chiron at Pisces 28-58 and Saturn at Leo 28-15. Transiting Uranus at Pisces 22-07 is conjunct Alexander’s Moon at Pisces 21-44. There are other transits but clearly these indicate the significant changes in health which resulted in the death of Alexander Solzhenitsyn.
