Adele - Voted Best female Singer 22 February 2012
Adele has won two prizes at the Brit Awards ceremony in London. She picked up the prize for best British album. She also won best British female. Adele added her Brits to the six Grammy Awards she won last weekend, capping a year of huge global success. According to her record label, the London singer's second album; 21 has sold 17 million copies around the world and hit number one in 24 countries.Accepting the best album prize - the final and most prestigious of the night - she said: "Nothing makes me prouder than coming home with six Grammys and then coming to the Brits and winning album of the year. "I'm so proud to be British and to be flying our flag.Adele's 21 beat Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto, Florence & The Machine's Ceremonials, PJ Harvey's Let England Shake and Ed Sheeran's + to the best British album award. In the best British female category, Adele beat Jessie J, Florence & The Machine, Kate Bush and last year's winner Laura Marling. She also sang Rolling at the Deep at the ceremony - only her second performance since throat surgery last year. "I'm over the moon," said Adele shortly after picking up the Brit award for best British album. "This is so important to me."
The singer's global success has been generated by a break-up album that runs through all five stages of grief, from the fist-thumping fury of Rolling In The Deep to the agonised acceptance of Someone Like You. It's underpinned by that voice - a powerhouse of sheer conviction that rips up the ground like a hurricane.Success to date: 17m albums sold worldwide; 21 weeks at number one in the UK album chart; 8 Grammy awards; £11m estimated income in 2011; 6,988 songs played on UK radio in the last 30 days; 2 Brit awards. Adele was born 5th May 1988 at 03.02 BST, London, England (from Astrotheme).A close Sun-Jupiter conjunction in Taurus makes a trine aspect to Neptune in Capricorn and indicates her sensitivity and belief in her artistic ability. But the Sun and Jupiter are also part of a t-square with Pluto in Scorpio and Mars in Aquarius and this can be interpreted as an aggressive and powerful energy that is being used to further the expression of her art. However, there is a need to exercise some self-control regarding people she meets along the way and to ensure that power and success do not lead to arrogance. That her art relates to music and singing in particular can be gleaned from the ruler of Taurus, Venus, which is closely conjunct Chiron in Gemini opposite a Moon-Uranus-Saturn stellium. This indicates the individual way in which she controls her voice and the ability she has to use personal painful experiences in a way that people can identify with - helping them in their process of healing.
The 23-year-old has good reason to be happy. Since her second album, 21, was released in January 2011, it has sold a copy every seven seconds in the UK. Worldwide, the figure is every two seconds. "I can't imagine how many people that is," she said. "It just goes over my head. But it's phenomenal, the success of this album, where it's gone, where it's taken me. "And it seems like it's done it all on its own, as well. I haven't done that much, and then I was halted by my voice problems - but the record just carried on, carried on walking without me."
Uranus is the ruler of her ascendant at 23-11' degrees of Aquarius. Apart from the conjunction with Saturn and the Moon (ruler of the 6th house of health) and the opposition to Venus and Chiron, it also makes a quincunx aspect to Mercury, the ruler of Gemini. This aspect could indicate health problems connected to nervous disorders and throat problems. It suggests regular breaks are needed so that the system is not overworked. The centaur Pholus is at 1-12' degrees of Gemini, conjunct Mercury and indicates victimhood, fame and legacies, among other things. L.S.
