1996 TL66

On 9th October 1996, at the University of Mauna Kea, Hawaii, a tiny new moving speck on a photographic plate heralded the discovery of a chunk of rock that is destined to add a new dimension to the world of astrology. Chiron was the first discovered of the Centaurs. A classification of asteroid with highly elliptical orbits at distances as close to the Sun as Saturn at perihelion and out as far as Pluto in some at aphelion. These little planetoids are thus quite unusual in this respect when compared to the vast majority of asteroids which orbit within the orbit of Jupiter, Some conjecture that the Centaurs may be fed by the Kuiper Belt, a circle of asteroids with an average radius vector comparable to that of Pluto, and perhaps Pluto itself is the largest of these. However, a vast distance beyond the Kuiper Belt astronomers hypothesise that there is yet another ring of small bodies, some of them perhaps the source of long-period comets. This ring, the Oort Cloud, could possibly be connected to what are called the Scattered Disc Objects or S.D.O.'s. Like Centaurs, they have highly elliptical orbits but their aphelion distance goes much further out than that of Pluto. It is to this class of solar system objects that 1996 TL66 belongs. Just to offer perspective here, remember that Neptune is some 30AU's from the Sun ( 1AU, astronomical unit, is the mean distance the Earth is from the Sun). Pluto's orbit is somwhat elliptical and at perihelion is actually slightly within Neptune's orbit. However, when at aphelion in Taurus, it takes Pluto 30 years to traverse the sign at 45AU. This is why it takes a huge 248 years for Pluto to complete one revolution around the Sun. 1996 TL66 has a yet more elliptical orbit. While at perihelion it is well within Pluto's orbit at 35 AU (not dissimilar to Neptune and Pluto). At aphelion it is an enormous 131AU, hugely remote in deep space. This is responsible fo the massive orbital period of 753 years. But what of the astrology of this tiny 630km diameter asteroid? When Chiron was discovered in 1977, its position was located at 3 degrees of Taurus. Interestingly, when TL66 was discovered it too was positioned at 3 degrees of Taurus. Now, the word 'Chiron' is only one letter different from the word 'Charon'. Charon, in the myth, is the ferryman who took the souls of the departed across the river Styx from this world to Hades, the underworld domain of Pluto. And Charon was the name given to the moon of Pluto by James Christy (after his wife Charlene, who sacrifced his company on long dark nights to that of the telescope). And he discovered Charon in the same year as Chiron. So, through Chiron and Charon a connection is established linking Pluto and TL66. Since Pluto was discovered much earlier, in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh,it has obviously been much better researched than these more recently discovered bodies. Astrologically, Pluto is the planet of intensity, of life and death, of psychological revelation, power, compulsion, obsession, penetration of secrets and of the atom bomb. Since additionally, TL66 at perihelion comes within the aphelion radius vector of Pluto, astrological associations of a similar flavour would be no surprise. Even in these early days of research on TL66, differences have been observed. It is as if TL66 acts like a colossal super-Pluto. Whereas Pluto is the indicator of control and power, TL66 is the symbol of unlimited power. As Pluto is the significator of the atom bomb, TL66 represents the enormous power of the multi-megaton hydrogen bomb. In Pluto, the depths of the subconscious can be plumed anddeeply hidden issues erupted into consciousness. In TL66, the secrets of the universe can be unearthed and transmitted to the Superconscious, sometimes in a blinding flash of illumination. Some keywords are given here according to my research:- the connection between two worlds, perception of anew order, total transformation of understanding, subtle insight-even second sight, the flash that blinds, unlimited power or abuse of power, mystical revelation of the Divine, the moment of truth, the time warp-in either direction, the silence that deafens, precognitive vision, the unimaginable destruction of the holocaust, total annihilation, the standing still of time.
